Hunter

winter rains race angrily at me from the jemez
race black gray across the staring faces expressions
of the deeply shadowed mesas
moments lengthen as the wind begins
to lick at pine trees whipping
finch hungrily feed
flee to their juniper homes
I lick at my lips
taste what might be
the first drops of time
running from a
hunting
rain

When the Sky

when the sky is suddenly broken
and no one is left to see the blue spilling
let the crushing breeze fall between
you the blue hills blue earth
feel the blue on your tongue
touch the ends of the earth
the wings of birds
with a no longer
sky

Maybe Wolf

echoes linger longer
linger in this blankness of his

he dreams easily enough even breezily
an anonymous boy wishfully fishing
in the bubbles little ripples
of dark and darting
shadows

on this night
he comes alone to see
the moon turn to blood
turn to wolf

he sees the moon wants to howl
alert the heavens to its presence
but somehow
has forgotten
how

it begs to eclipse itself
become its own pulsing shadows
its own deepening mysteries

the sunny breath
essence of the wolf's now
whispered
mighty
cry

Redwillows
oh his rowdier ghosts
nameless cowardly

surround him
loud enough to drown out
the hissing stream
flowing now
by red
willows
the moon seems to know
as much as one could ever know
his eddy of bubbling dreams
slow current of empty meanings

blurred reflections
and in branches
leaning to the stream
a heart groans
lies alone in a basket
woven tightly by moonlight
cold breath
of a coyote

waiting
wicked
in red
willows

Seasons

the winter of her
freezes me in time
cloaks me in fresh snow
the spring in her thaws me
blossoms freely in new born light
the summer of her warms me
heartens me on longer days
and the fall of her
the fall of her
wraps me in all color
leaves me vibrant
a season
still waiting
wanting
for a
name

Time

this night is only smoke no more
sparks touch rise to become star
he feels a fraction of sky
a yellow moon protecting
shards of broken rainbow
unearthly tears frozen in place
waiting to be collected admired
there is wonder here for all to see
maybe something more
time rolling as thunder applauds loudly
disturbs his silence for what
a cloaking mist thickly dust spreads out before him
he loses sight stumbles on a marked stone
a circle in circle round and smooth
a thought of time and
time
again

Next

only the crow own these swirling rows
of a scarred forgotten cornfield
they are countless in this wondrous dusk
fencerows that frame their glorious poem
are darker than the dusk
darker than the next hint of loneliness
the crow become their own dark words
loudly shouting to all crow and man
spellbound all
in a knowing
tattered
wind
